September ends in another scorcher

Friday was another scorching day with the temperature reaching 28.2°C. It was blue sky all day once again, absolutely unexpected weather for the end of September especially after our poor summer.
Our first batch of autumn planting onions arrived from Dobies Seeds today. These are Dobies Autumn Champion and Senshyu Yellow. We grew these two varieties last year and they cropped pretty well even though we had a very harsh winter. They kept us well supplied with onions through summer filling the gap between the end of last year’s stored main crop and this year’s harvest. Some rain would now be nice otherwise this will be another crop requiring watering to add to our brassica crops when the sets are planted next week.
