Blimey - What a Scorcher!

From the early part of the morning it gave every indication that it was going to be hot. By lunchtime we were around the 25°C (77°F) mark and through the afternoon the temperature continued to increase reaching a high of 28.6°C (83.5°F) by late afternoon.
Temperature & Solar Radiation Records for 25 May 2017
Not only is that the hottest day of the year but also the highest May temperature I've recorded since  I began recording in 2010. The previous record was 28.0°C (82.4°F) reached on 28 May 2012.
It was certainly too hot to consider doing anything strenuous on the plot.

  1. Yikes, that's hot. I had plans to sit quietly in a dimly lit room yesterday afternoon out of the heat. Ended up roasting in the car driving to the Minor Injuries Unit with one of the boys and waiting for hours in a sweltering waiting room. Sigh. Today I am aiming for the shady option. I hear there is rain on the way at the weekend, so hopefully no watering needed.

    1. We visited Slimbridge on Friday after a very hot and lazy Thursday. It was hot at Slimbridge but we kept managing to find some shady benches where we could throw some seed for the ducks. Expecting some heavy showers on Saturday morning. Perhaps the forecast will be wrong.

  2. The weather just cannot get it right for you, can it? It's either too hot, too cold, too windy, too rainy, but I never thought it would get this hot in May where you live. 80F is my cutoff for gardening outside, too. But I'm used to it. You're not. Take care. It takes a long time to recover from over heating yourself.

    1. It's been an odd month weather wise for us. It was cold enough to frost the potatoes at the allotment this month. They are recovering well now thank goodness. Now we've got it unusually hot for the time of year. One thing for sure is that we never really know what the weather will be like from one day to the next. We did take it easy in the hot weather. The most strenuous task was lifting a cold drink.
