Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday haven't been that bad for the end of November. The wind has been much calmer, we've had a few sunny spells mixed in with a smattering of showers. We've had no more frosts since the weekend.
Although we haven't been down to the plot to do any harvesting I did manage to collect a nice bowl of apples from the summerhouse. They were a mixture of Egremont Russet and Fiesta. I noticed a few were starting to rot and these will need to be thrown away.
I couldn't help noticing that one of our honeysuckles is in flower. It hasn't got lots of flowers just one or two.
It set me thinking that before I began writing a blog I probably wouldn't have taken too much notice of this. Now I'm blogging and digital photography has come along l don't think twice about taking a photo and adding a photo and comment to a blog post. Our poor plants don't have any chance of doing something a little bit out of the ordinary without being photographed and blogged about.

There's a honeysuckle down the road that's trailing over a wall in full bloom. I must admit I thought about taking a photo as well. I've just put the last of my allotment apples in the fruit bowl. No doubt they'll be polished off before long.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't like to say our honeysuckle was in full bloom it's just got one of two flowers. I need some more freezer space to freeze more apples. I don't think our apples will last too much longer in the summer house.
DeleteI've had a bit of trouble keeping the apples because it is so mild and damp this year. There was a lot of brown rot in the apples while still on the trees and then they began rotting quite quickly after picking in the mild weather. Luckily it was a big crop and we've eaten plenty fresh.
ReplyDeleteOur apples were in quite good condition when we harvested them. Egremont Russet and Fiesta are storing much better than Golden Delicious. I think if we're very lucky we might manage for another two or three weeks before we have to start buying apples. Like you we've eaten lots already.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure keeping a record of crops helps sort out problems. I know I must sow some seeds earlier next year to try to produce some salad leaves and lettuces for winter harvesting. I'd be the first to admit that my record keeping isn't perfect. There's definitely room for improvement.
