Tomato and Pepper Sowing Day

Sunday was mostly dull although it was a pleasantly mild day.

I thought it was about time I sowed our tomato and pepper seeds. I'm hoping my timing is judged so that they will be able to germinate indoors under our growlight before moving on into the greenhouse to grow on through the summer without receiving a check due to a coldish spell of weather.

Together with the tomatoes and peppers I sowed some early cabbages and cauliflowers but these were left in the greenhouse to germinate.

I spent some time in the “darkroom” processing the several hundred photographs and videos taken at WWT Slimbridge last Friday. I was rather impressed by the size of this seed feeder and the size of the birds using it.

    1. We're hoping for a better year this year with tomatoes in our home greenhouse.

  2. I am not a fan of the Sweet Pepper / Capsicum myself, but Jane likes them, so I grow a few. I also have some "King of the North" this year, from seeds given to me by Eddy Ceyssens in Belgium. Apparently this is a variety that performs well in our often disappointing Summers!

    1. We'll probably test out its performance in poor summers then.

  3. Perhaps not so surprising, given the time of year, but I was doing the same on Saturday!

Also I recognise those crows. They must have been taking a break from our garden.

    1. It's a bit of a long commute for the crows Mal.

    2. The one on the feeder was a jackdaw and the other was a rook so not your crows, Mal

    3. Both points taken. But these birds, along with the magpies, make the songbirds lives a misery and empty feeders in no time.

  4. I've given up on peppers, not having a greenhouse. Months and months of nurtuing for not very much return. I've given in gracefully. We usually see smaller "garden" birds on that feeder, I'm surprised to see those.
